Roti

Wednesday, January 21, 2015 | Publish by My CookBook

Roti is Indian flat bread usually prepared of whole-wheat flour also known as atta flour. Roti came from sanskrit word ”rotika” which means ”bread”. This bread is a very important part of Indian cuisine and prepared in almost every kitchen all over India but also in neighbor countries, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

Ingredients:
  • Whole wheat flour 2 cups
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Oil 4 tsp
  • Warm water 3/4 cup
  • Flour for dusting and rolling
Instructions:
  1. In a large bowl mix  flour  and salt, add oil and mix until lumps are gone.
  2. Add warm water a little at a time and form medium soft dough ball.
  3. Add oil and coat the dough ball and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  4. Heat tawa.
  5. Knead dough and divide in to golf ball size balls.
  6. Dip ball in to flour to coat and roll in to a thin disc.
  7. Add flour now and then to prevent it from sticking to the rolling surface.
  8. Pick roti and place on top of hot tawa.
  9. When you see bubbles appear on surface flip to the other side.
  10. When that side ready, remove tawa and put roti directly on an open flame. It will balloon up.
  11. Then flip to the other side and do same.
  12. When done, put Ghee or clarified butter on top.
